Hi Valerie! Just wanted to ask you how you get the digital copies of your watercolor pieces. I did watercolor paintings yesterday and decided to scan them to get them on to my computer for posting but ended up with overexposed copies. Do you take photos of yours?
I don’t have a scanner so I take photos of all my works and sketches (even notes for school and other documents). A lot of my works are big so it might be easier for me to use a camera instead but I know some people who patch up scans of 1 large painting. It’s crazy! I’m sure it’s possible to find the right scanner settings because I’ve seen scanned trad works with good color quality.
I use a Canon EOS 30D. I do a lot of color correction in Photoshop though, so it’s really beneficial to get a camera that barely shows grain in minimal ISO and I think shooting in raw helps a lot, especially when you’re planning to readjust the exposure or reproduce them as prints. Cameras hardly record painting colors accurately no matter how top-of-the-line the model is. Colors change depending on present lighting conditions. I usually take photos during daylight, from 10AM to 3PM. Overcast dramatically changes the color (even with white balance) so I rarely take photos on rainy days. I don’t know if there are people who construct makeshift environments/studios for artworks. Artificial light usually produces glare on artworks. Hope this helps!
your artwork is simply lovely, and it has such a beautiful delicacy! Do you make/would you consider making prints? I'd love to have one on my wall :3
Thank you so much!!! <3 Some of my works are available in print in deviantart. Click here to view them. It’s Not There is also available in print but I haven’t enabled it in deviantart yet. I shipped a print to the US earlier, here’s what it looks like in 12x18” matte. The print quality is marvelous! It costs $20 shipping fee included. Personally shipping to US and Europe is a bit expensive because I’m all the way here in Asia, but prices might not differ much when I enable it as print in devArt.
I can also print on archival paper but I don’t think I can ship it out of the country yet as of now because I can’t roll it, it takes up a lot of space, making shipping so expensive.
If anyone is interested in a certain work that you want to be shipped to you, just email me: chua.valerie(at)gmail.com I can either ship it personally or enable it in dA (but it depends on the work, because I can’t sell some works). If you think the prices in my dA print shop are too expensive (the price list in dA is exclusive of shipping costs), I can ship it personally for a couple of dollars cheaper depending on the size.
If anyone in the Philippines is also interested in my prints, the price is really low because you won’t have to pay much for shipping anymore. :) Yey~! Just email me.
I can ship as much as 2 works in 1 parcel, just add $10.
